The Mediterranean archipelago of the Balearic islands is made up of the following islands: Majorca, Minorca, Ibiza, Formentera and Cabrera. The steep rocky inlets of Majorca, the beaches of fine sand on Ibiza, the protected nature of Formentera, a cultural heritage of an exceptional richness, make of the Balearic Islands the symbol of a way of living which is unique.
Main towns : Palma de Mallorca, Inca, Manacor (Majorca), San Antonio de Portmany, Santa Eulalia del Rio (Ibiza), Mao, Villacarlos (Minorca).
Surface area: 5100 square kilometres. The individual surface areas of each island making up the Balearic archipelago vary between 48 sq.km. (Cabrera) and 3640 sq.km. (Majorca).
Population: 822,000 inhabitants
Particularity: The numerous monuments of Palma de Mallorca are almost all situated within the old quarter of the town: el Pueblo Español (Spanish village), the Cathedral and also the many palaces (Palau de la Almudaina Catillo de Bellber...).
