In the heart of the Atlantic Ocean, between the old and the new continent, the Azores volcanic archipelago includes nine islands spreaded on 600km long. Both wild, majestic, confusing or extravagant, the Azores archipelago proposes a wild nature together with the mildness of protected places.
Main towns : Ponta Delgada (São Miguel),
Angra do Heroismo (Terceira), Calheta et Velas (São Jorge), Lajes
do Pico (Pico), Horta (Faial), Santa Cruz da Flores (Flores).
Surface area : 2 355 square kilometers. The individual surface areas of each island vary between 747 sq.km (São Miguel) and 17 sq.km (Corvo).
Population : 270 000 inhabitants
Particularity : The volcano Pico on the Pico island is the highest place of Portugal. Its altitude reach 2 351 meters.
